Facial Reshaping

Have you ever desired a change in your facial shape? Does your face make you appear to be heavier than you really are? Or perhaps you have a long or gaunt-appearing face?

Dr. Youn co-authored an article entitled "Facial Reshaping using Minimally Invasive Methonds" which was published in the March/April 2005 issue of The Aesthetic Surgery Journal.  You can download the article as a PDF by clicking here. Buccal Lipectomy

This is a short procedure which removes the fat inside the cheeks through a small incision in the mouth. It results in a sharper contour of the lower cheek, and is valuable in reshaping this part of the face. People with “chipmunk cheeks” can undergo this procedure. There are no visible scars, although the results can be subtle.

Otoplasty

Otoplasty, or ear pinback, is performed to correct protruding ears. It happens to be one of the few cosmetic surgeries performed on children.

An incision is placed in the natural creases behind the ear and the cartilage of the ear is weakened so that it bends into a new shape. The cartilage is also stitched into position to hold the ear into position. Recovery normally takes one to two weeks.

EARLOBE REDUCTION AND REPAIR

Earlobes can be lengthened and damaged by age, heavy earrings, and heredity. By utilizing small incisions, earlobes can be repaired and/or made smaller in size.

Ethnic Surgery

Asian Eyelid Surgery with crease formation

Many Asians do not have the crease above their upper eyelid as seen in most Caucasian people. In addition, some Asian eyelids appear to be fuller than the eyelids of Caucasians and have a fold of skin which runs along the central portion of the eye, called an epicanthal fold. Asian eyelids can be made to look more attractive through Asian eyelid surgery which creates a fold over the eyelid, and in certain cases removes the epicanthal fold and excess eyelid fat.  In certain cases he can perform the surgery with very minimal incisions using the two-stitch DST technique. This produces the upper eyelid crease with very minimal scarring and little downtime.

Jawline Contouring

Asians can occasionally have wider jawlines than they would like. Although this has been traditionally treated with painful, extensive surgeries which remove part of the muscle over the jaw or shave off part of the jawbone itself, Dr. Youn can reduce the width of the jawline temporarily using Botox injections. This procedure can be done over a lunch break with no downtime.

Injectables:

BOTOX® Cosmetic

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a protein that weakens muscles that wrinkle the skin. It is injected under the skin into areas surrounding the eyes and forehead to reduce "worry lines", "crow's feet" and "frown lines". BOTOX is administered by both Dr. Youn and his plastic surgery nurse Christina Biotti, RN. They also use BOTOX for elevating the eyebrows and reducing the width of the jaw in selected patients. The procedure is quick and performed in the office with minimal pain and no downtime. Most patients say it's much easier than going to the dentist! We use topical anesthetics such as Topicaine to numb the skin.

Injectable Fillers:
Restylane®, Perlane®, Juvederm™, and Prevelle

These are temporary "filler products" used to add fullness to areas of the face such as the lips, cheeks and forehead. They are fast, effective ways to smooth facial lines and define the lip border. In addition, they can be used to fill in deep and shallow wrinkles that cannot be treated by BOTOX®. The results are immediate but temporary. Perlane lasts longer than Restylane, but is a bit more expensive and is not used in the lips. Dr. Youn and his plastic surgery nurse Christina perform these procedures in the comfort and privacy of the office. We use topical anesthetics as well as dental blocks (in selected patients) to numb the skin. Downtime and discomfort are very minimal.

Sculptra

Sculptra is an effective treatment for HIV-related lipodystrophy. It is a long-term facial plumper, and usually entails 3 or more sessions, spaced 6-8 weeks apart. Dr. Youn performs this recently FDA-approved procedure in the comfort of our office under topical anesthetics. Results are believed to last approximately 2 years. Sculptra is not currently FDA-approved for general cosmetic use.
